There’s, unfortunately, no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to how much you should tip, if you decide to do so. This is because there’s no one-size-fits-all, average move. A single-bedroom apartment on the third floor of an apartment building with narrow hallways and a winding staircase could be just as (or more) difficult than packing a single-family home filled with heavy furniture and delicate items that have to be handled with care.

A few things you can consider when deciding how much to tip include:

  • Whether you packed your own belongings or invested in packing services.
  • The distance and time involved in the move.
  • Your location and whether the movers were able to go directly to your new home or made at least one stop along the way.
